Montessori Preschool in Temecula

Preschool teacher reading to class

Our Primary Classroom (ages 3-6)

Choosing a preschool is a big decision. You want your child to feel happy walking through the door each morning, and you want to know the people caring for them really know who they are. That's what families tell us they love about Peppertree.

Our Montessori preschool serves children ages 3–6 in a carefully prepared, multi-age classroom.

In Montessori, this age group is called the Primary classroom.

By the end of the first few weeks, most children know exactly where to hang their backpack, where to find their favorite work, and which teacher they'll go to when they need help. Those little routines help school begin to feel familiar, and that's when children really start to settle in.

Frequently asked questions

Inside Our

Montessori Preschool

When you walk into a Montessori classroom, you'll probably notice something different right away. Some children are reading with a teacher, another is carefully pouring water, two friends are building together, while another child is quietly working on a puzzle. Rather than everyone doing the same activity at the same time, each child is engaged in meaningful work that's just right for them.

The classroom is calm—not because children are expected to sit quietly, but because they're interested in what they're doing. Our teachers spend their day observing, guiding, and giving lessons that match each child's stage of development.

Just as importantly, Montessori doesn't assume children already know how to be part of a classroom community. We intentionally teach everyday social skills through Grace & Courtesy lessons. Children learn how to ask for help, wait for a turn, join a friend's activity, solve disagreements, respect another person's work, and handle disappointment with kindness and confidence. When conflict happens, we don't simply correct behavior—we see it as an opportunity to teach a new skill.

Why are Montessori classrooms multi-age?

Our Primary classroom includes children ages 3 to 6. Younger children learn by watching older classmates, while older children naturally become helpers and role models. It's common to see a five-year-old helping a younger friend zip a jacket, carry a tray, or understand a classroom routine.

These everyday interactions build confidence, patience, kindness, and leadership in a way that happens naturally throughout the day.

What will my 3-year-old experience?

For many three-year-olds, the first year is all about becoming comfortable in the classroom. They learn where everything belongs, how to care for their environment, and how to become part of the classroom community.

Throughout the year, children build independence through Practical Life activities, begin exploring letter sounds and numbers, enjoy art, music, outdoor play, and discover the joy of learning alongside friends.

What changes as children turn 4?

By age four, many children have become confident members of the classroom. They begin tackling more advanced Montessori lessons in reading, writing, math, science, geography, and cultural studies while continuing to learn at their own pace.

As their confidence grows, so does their ability to solve problems, help classmates, and take pride in caring for themselves and their classroom.

What is Kindergarten like in a Montessori classroom?

The kindergarten year is often when everything comes together. Children build on the foundation they've developed over the previous two years, becoming strong readers, writers, mathematicians, and problem-solvers.

Just as importantly, they become leaders. Kindergarten students serve as role models for younger children, helping them learn classroom routines, offering encouragement, and developing confidence that comes from helping others.

By the time they leave Peppertree, children are not only academically prepared for first grade—they're confident, respectful, independent learners who know how to be part of a classroom community.
